Athletics Tomorrow!

Hey,

Athletics is tomorrow and some people are freaking. The 3 main events in our Shelly Parks athletics is: Softball throw, high jump and long jump. This is how our athletics works: First of all Pod 4 is split into two groups the championships and the tabloids. The championships are the students that perform in the softball throw, high jump and long jump. The tabloids are the students that didn’t quite make it into the championships so they get to go and have fun at the novelty events on the big field. The tabloids also have different leaders for different house colours the house colours are: Kikorangi (blue), Kakariki (green), Kowhai (yellow) and Whero (red).

There will be heaps of photos so make sure you have a look!

Well I hope Pod 4 all have fun tomorrow.

Bye! :D

The Pink Alien

Hello, in Room 20 we are making paper mache masks and I thought I would share a bit about mine. My mask is the pink mask on the right. I have made an Alien and this is how I made it: Firstly I had blown a balloon and started gluing on news paper with a special type of glue after lots of layers of newspaper we went onto white paper. We then had to cut out different things and hot glued them on then we had to paper mache over them. After everything was dry we started to paint when the paint was dry we stuck different materials on.

Our Masks

In Room 20 we made paper mache masks. First we blew up ballons then we paper mached them.  In a few weeks we had finished paper macheing and were on to cutting our ballons.  Once we had cut them we made eyes, mouths, noses ect out of cardboard, toilet paper tubes, wire etc.  Then we painted and decorated them with sequins, gems, googly eyes, feathers, pipecleaners and pompoms. This is what they looked like once they were finished. E.J and R.H

Motuihe Island Trip

Yr 5 and 6 help Restore Island

On Wednesday the 11th of June yr 5 and 6 students went to Motuihe Island for the day planting trees working in the nursery and looking for seeds I bet they had sore legs after that!

Yr 5 and 6 students decide to help Motuihe Island they planted trees worked in the nursery and looked for seeds. Young E.J age 9 said “My favourite part of the trip was going on the ferry”. Lots of students said they tried the numb tooth plant .S.B said” it was all right but it was not the nicest thing I have tasted”.

On the walk for looking for seeds the lady who was taking the walk said” there are no dogs allowed on the island!” she also said “if you come in a boat make sure you check for rats”. Group 1 looked for seeds first Group 2 planted trees and Group 3 worked in the nursery. In the nursery there were three things to do 1. Make special boxes for the soil to go in .2. Put the soil in the box with a shovel. 3. Carefully take the plant out of the soil and put it in the box then cover it in soil. S.P age 10 said “it was really fun I thought it would be boring but it was fun”

Group 1 planted trees Group 2 worked in the nursery and Group 3 looked for seeds. Planting trees looked fun but it was a hard job!!!!!1. Get a tree 2. Make a square with a spade and dig a whole with it 3. Get a fertiliser tablet and put it in the hole 4. Cover it in soil and step on the soil with you’re heal

(Make sure you are care full not to step on the plant!) 5. Cover the soil

with grass.

So as you can see Shelly Park Pod 4 had a good day planting trees working in the nursery and looking for seeds.

School gets fit while helping the needy

A well known school of the name Shelly Park, got fit raised money and gave the heart foundation a big help

The heart foundation has done so much for people big and small trying day in day out to try cure heart disease and have also done heart trance plants.

There were four events for these caring children such as singles, doubles, and fancy and to top it off a good old skip around the court student Chris Walden said it was great to do something for those unlucky children.

This day has helped so much raising money and everything. Hopefully the heart foundation will continue to find out things about heart disease.
